Freezing Meat Without Freezer Burn - Course 202

Freezing Meat and Other Foods Using Aluminum Foil

What Should Never be Done When Freezing Meat

Never allow any frozen food to be in direct contact with aluminum.  There is evidence that aluminum has a deleterious affect on the brain.  If you’ve ever wrapped raw or cooked food directly in aluminum foil, maybe you’ve noticed that after a week or two in the freezer, the foil is pitted and blackened.  The aluminum has dissolved into the food.  If you taste it, health hazards aside, you can taste the metallic aluminum in the food.

Aluminum foil certainly has its uses, and some people wrap butter already wrapped in wax paper, in aluminum foil to prevent any freezer tastes from entering the butter.  I sometimes double wrap something that has already been tightly sealed in plastic food wrap, in aluminum foil. This is to further protect the food wrap from being punctured.

Click on freezer burn to learn how to never again have to throw out your expensive meats because of freezer burn.
